About Cryotherapy

Liquid nitrogen is a cold gas with a temperature of –196° Celsius (–321° Fahrenheit). It is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as warts, actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancerous lesions), and seborrheic keratosis. After liquid nitrogen is applied to the skin, stinging will occur for a few minutes. A throbbing discomfort may persist for a few days in specific treated areas, such as the hands or feet. If a growth (such as a wart) requires a deeper freeze, redness and swelling are expected to occur.

Results and Recovery

Any blistering that occurs will serve to detach the skin from its blood supply so that it may fall off with the blister in a few days. A scab or crust will eventually form and last until the skin heals. In general, no special care is needed after liquid nitrogen treatment. Simply allow the skin to pass through the expected series of reactions until healing occurs.
