Dermatologist Dr. Angela Lamb Gives Her Skin Product Picks for a Flawless Spring

156Nothing convinces us that we need to take note of tips given to us about getting the glow when it comes to our skin than observing (er, envying?) the smooth and even skin of the messenger. And there we were, soaking up the advice and aura of Dr. Angela Lamb.

And credentials? She’s got them! Dr. Lamb, a Cornell graduate, is the  Director of New York’s Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice.
So yes, now that spring weather is here (or close, or coming soon we hope!), we asked Dr. Lamb to tell us her choices for the best skincare products and techniques to help us transition into the season. Products that will make us more beautiful but won’t break the bank! After all, a girl’s gotta have a few bills left to refresh her spring wardrobe, too!
Soak up Dr. Lamb’s tips and let it glow!

Exfoliation: It is time to shed not only your winter coat, but any dry skin that winter left behind. One way to accomplish this is through exfoliation. While there are prescription strength products that help the top layer of the skin cells turn over faster, there are several over-the-counter products that can help to reveal that warm weather glow. Peter Thomas Roth Complexion Correction Pads are my go-to for exfoliating. They contain salicylic acid and a glycolic acid complex that will really help remove any unwanted skin cells without being too harsh. This product comes in a mild version as well for folks who have more sensitive skin.

Sun Protection: With spring comes more sun from longer daylight and warmer weather, which means we spend more time outside. The key is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every morning as part of your daily regimen. I tell patients that wearing sunscreen should be as routine as brushing your teeth, and doing so daily will keep your complexion even. I love Elta MD UV Broad-Spectrum sunscreen for oily skin or UV Clear.

Blemish Prevention: Warmer weather also can bring increased acne breakouts. Skin can be very sensitive to weather changes and with more sweating can come more problems. Neutrogena Acne Facial Pads are a great drugstore product to keep the breakouts under control.

Moisture Balance: Our skin generally requires less moisturizers as the weather heats up. It can be difficult to find that balance between something that will keep our skin from feeling dry, but not looking overly shiny. I love CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, which traps in the moisture without clogging your pores.

Travel Protection: Spring is a great time to travel! Unfortunately, you might be traveling to a different time zone or just not getting that recommended seven hours of sleep. All of the fun can take a toll on our skin and may result in puffiness under the eyes. SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair is one of the best products that I have seen to promote under eye smoothness.
